Many consumers and professional car reviewers love the Camry Hybrid not only for its incredible fuel efficiency, but also its generous interior space and legendary reputation for reliability. Toyota offers the midsize hybrid in three trim levels: LE, SE and XLE.
For the 2015 model year, much about the car has been overhauled, including tightening up its handling, changing the exterior look and improving the quality of the cabin materials.
The vehicle is propelled by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder DOHC gasoline engine that teams up with an electric motor and a battery for a total output of 200 horsepower. Also standard is an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive.
Thanks to Toyota's Star Safety System, which is included on all three trims, the Camry Hybrid is outfitted with safety equipment such as ABS brakes for all four wheels, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist, smart stop technology enhanced vehicle stability control and traction control. Drivers and passengers are covered by ten standard airbags and three-point seatbelts. The driver and front passenger both sit in seats designed to lessen the likelihood of whiplash.
Even the structure of the car is designed to withstand collisions from all sides, with crumple zones situated in the front and rear, impact beams located in the doors and a collapsible steering column that absorbs forces from a crash. The XLE can also be outfitted with a Safety Connect system that automatically calls for help when the vehicle's in a wreck, plus a blind spot monitor to help watch out for other cars on the road.
The Camry Hybrid LE comes with some impressive and useful standard features. Drivers enjoy excellent visibility with projector-beam halogen headlights, which switch on and off automatically, plus daytime running lights. The side mirrors are heated and power-adjustable. Other exterior equipment includes 16-inch steel wheels, solar energy-absorbing glass and an acoustic windshield that reduces interior noise. Speaking of the cabin, the car also comes with a dual zone automatic climate control and humidity sensor, rearview camera, fabric upholstery, push button ignition, cruise control, power windows and locks, two 12V power outlets and a sound system with six speakers.
With the LE, additional exterior features include halogen headlights, mesh front grille, 17-inch alloy wheels, chrome exhaust tips and a rear spoiler. Buyers can go with an optional power moonroof. On the inside, the front seats are covered with SofTex, plus the driver's seat is power-adjustable. In addition, the steering wheel is wrapped in leather.
On the XLE, LED daytime running lights are standard, along with a different style of 17-inch wheels, rear seat vents, leather upholstery, front seat heaters, digital compass, automatic-dimming rearview mirror and an enhanced sound system with HD radio, traffic and weather.
