The2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime is one of the most impressive compact SUVs you’ll find driving around Mission Hills and Cerritos, sure. But why? This unique RAV4 model is so much more than just a RAV4 trim level or a RAV4 with a fancy superhero-like name. Instead, the Toyota RAV4 Prime is the definitive RAV4 plug-in-hybrid electric (PHEV) model. That means it’s eligible for California incentives! We’ll run through what else that means before filling you in on the RAV4 hybrid range vs. EV range below. Ready? Let’s go!

What’s the Toyota RAV4 Prime Range for 2022?

This RAV4 has both hybrid range and EV range estimates. Why? Because plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), or plug-in hybrids for short, generally are driven like electric cars for a certain number of miles until the battery pack is drained and must be recharged. At that point, the gasoline motor generally kicks in. The RAV4 Prime offers multiple driving modes, though, including EV Mode, Sport Mode, and HV-Mode (Hybrid vehicle mode). In HV-Mode, the gas engine and electric motor operate.

What’s more, “Even when the traction battery is showing as empty, the RAV4 Prime still operates as a hybrid, regeneratively braking and using its electric motors to propel the vehicle below 25 mph/40 km/h. And it tracks your electric-only mileage and your “battery is empty” fuel efficiency as two separate stats.” In other words, the RAV4 Prime’s would-be “gas-only” range technically counts as “hybrid’ range as well.

The above having been said, let’s be sure to differentiate between the two so you can get a better handle on how far the RAV4 prime can truly take you on your West Hollywood and Huntington Park adventures!
