UBER DRIVER CAR REQUIREMENTS
There are a few Uber driver car requirements. You must:
- Drive a 4-door car, truck, or minivan
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Have a valid driver’s license issued in the state where you will work for Uber
- Have insurance
- Pass a background check
- Have at least three years of driving experience
- Have a clean driving record
- Have a vehicle fit to pass an Uber inspection
You cannot drive for Uber with a:
- Full-size van
- Taxi or another marked vehicle
- Crown Victoria
- Salvaged vehicle
What year does your car have to be for Uber? UberX and UberXL drivers in Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, and San Francisco must have a 2004 model or newer.

- Seat at least four passengers (sedan) or six (SUV)
- Have commercial registration and insurance
- Have an airport permit
- Be a 2014 or newer
UberLUX Cars must:
- Have commercial insurance
- Be a 2010 or newer
LYFT DRIVER REQUIREMENTS
Lyft car requirements in California include the need for the following documents:
- Vehicle inspection form
- California driver’s license
- California vehicle insurance
- Driver photo
- California license plate
